About Me
General
My name is Bryce Moore. I was born in Utah, but moved to the East when I was 2, growing up in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. In 1996, I moved back to Utah to go to college (at BYU), and I haven't been able to escape since. Well, that isn't entirely true. I left for two years to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) in Leipzig, Germany. But besides that, I've been here in Utah County. I've been married for over five years now to a wonderful woman from Slovakia, and we have one son, who's now almost three years old.
Writing
I've been writing daily for about three years now. In that time, I've managed to finish first drafts of eight novels, and "finished" drafts of three of those. Cavern of Babel is my first novel to be published. I generally avoid short stories, since my efforts in that vein usually end up being awful. All eight of my novels thus far have been aimed at a YA or Middle Grade audience, although my latest project, Ichabod, is less age-specific.
Schooling/Work
I studied English and Linguistics for my undergraduate degree, American Literature, Adaptation and Creative Writing for my English Masters degree, and I'm just finishing up a Masters in Library Science from Florida State University (online). In chronological order, I've worked as a grunt at McDonald's (in high school), a public relations intern for a firm in New York city, a meter reader for the local gas company, a student librarian at BYU's Periodicals Department, a graduate instructor at BYU for English 115 and English 313, and an admission statements tutor. Right now I work at Orem Public Library, deep within the dark recesses where patrons never venture (acquistions). Once I graduate, I hope to get a job as a librarian in the New England/Northeast region, although being able to make a living from my writing alone would be spiffy, too.
Hobbies
In my spare time, I love reading voraciously, watching movies, playing video games (World of Warcraft is a favorite--I'm a human Warlock on the Firetree Realm), keeping current on sports (College teams: BYU and FSU; Football: Eagles; Basketball: Jazz; Baseball: Yankees, and I don't follow ice hockey much anymore, though when I did it was the Flyers), and watching a select number of television shows (Lost, Mythbusters and Good Eats are among the few).
